Hierarchies and formatting rules

21

A few weeks ago I was called by a SAP BO consultant, his name is Raoul Labega. He told me he was working on a project in Denmark. During this project he found a very good function in WebI that developers can use in combination with hierarchies. He wants to share this information with other developers via www.PieterVerstraeten.com. In this post he explains how to use the “Depth()” function in WebI.

Alerters are a way to draw attention to specific parts of your report. For example when certain thresholds are met and action must be taken. In SAP BO BI4 these alerts are created using formatting rules. In the example below you see red text when the Sales Volume exceeds 60.000.000 euro’s.

But if you take a closer look you also see that the first line, 173.417.082 euro is not printed in red. This is definitely more than 60.000.000 euro. The threshold is not set for the total product hierarchy. After expanding the Machines we see another threshold for  Pumps, if the Sales Volume exceeds 40.000.000 euro. Although the same Sales Volume of 43.546.066 euro occurs on the Machines-level, it is not highlighted on this level.

And we can do the same trick again on another level.

SimpleUsernames in BI4

5

If you installed SAP BO BI4 on top of a SAP BW 7.x system, users can login with their own SAP BW account. But if there are more source systems (i.e. non SAP), users need te be logon with different usernames. This is not a practical situation, also when you want to use SSO via ActiveDirectory. All these problems can be fixed by configuring SimpleUsernames.

If you logon to the CMC and view the user list, you see users in the current format:

- “BI1″ means the system ID
- “100″ means the client ID

If you want to use SSO via Active Directory and combine more source system, so users can logon with one username, you need to configure SimpleUsernames in BI4.

1. Open your windows register via Start –> Run –> type “regedit”
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Enterprise\Auth Plugins\secSAPR3
3. Modify the parameter “SimpleUsernameFormat”, change the value from “No” to “Yes”
4. Exit the register
5. Restart the SAP BO BI4 server

After restarting the BI4 server, you can change the username to your own format. The sytem- and client ID can be removed from the username. Now the user “TESTPV” can logon with one single username. In the CMC you can configure more authentication methods for this user. In the next example I’ll configure the user as Enterprise user:

1. Open the CMC, open the properties for the user. One alias is assigned to the user.

2. Now click on “New Alias”
3. Select Authentication Type “Enterprise”
4. Create a new password and click “Update”
5. A new alias had been created, the user “TESTPV” can also be logon with his new Enterprise account

Debugging in BI4 WebIntelligence

12

Last 5 years I worked a lot with SAP BW, debug BEx query’s, ABAP, etc. The debug mode could easily be found. Since I’m working with BI4 I was not aware how to debug reports in WebIngelligence, because it’s an web interface and all the Java errors are difficult to read. When your are developing WebI reports, you will certainly once encountered an error (i.e. The report cannot be generated….java….). In WebI it’s possible to debug with a hidden feature! What kind of options you have to debug:
- Used memory
- Performance
- ReportOutput
- Event messages
- Document properties
- Execute action

How to debug!
- Open your WebIntelligence report in design mode
- Hold your left SHIFT key down
- Go with your mouse to the left corner of the browser screen (see picture below)
- The debug screen will be opened! Refresh you report and see what’s happening inside the debugscreen.
- DebugTime :-)

I’ll thank my colleague Markus Edelmann who find this feature together with me.

After installing SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 LiveOffice you can enable or disable the plugin for an Microsoft Office program. Today I installed LiveOffice on the laptop of my client, after the installation MS Outlook was not able to start. So disabling the plugin for MS Outlook was necessary. Disabling plugins is possible for:

How can you enable or disable the plugins?

- Go to the following directory on your local pc: C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\LiveOffice
- Execute the program “enable_addin.exe”
- Enable or Disable plugins

Enjoy!
